CORONAVIRUS: ONE DEATH, 124 PEOPLE TEST POSITIVE ON THURSDAY
Health authorities on Thursday announced one more death attributed to Covid-19, while testing yielded 124 new positives.
The latest death, a woman aged 92, takes to the toll to 545. Earlier in the day, the ministry had issued a press release explaining that, following checks of records, the death toll as of Wednesday had been revised up to 544 from 535.
The average age of the deceased is 76.3 years.
Hospitals were meanwhile treating 97 Covid-19 patients, of whom 41 said to be in a serious condition. Of the 41, 18 were intubated and 23 in high-dependency units.
In addition, 11 post-Covid patients (no longer infectious) continued to be intubated in ICUs.
Of the hospitalised, 75 per cent had no record of vaccination for the coronavirus, the ministry said.
A total of 51,255 tests were carried out – of which 2,521 with PCR. The overall positivity rate came to 0.24 per cent.

A breakdown of Thursday’s positives: 16 from 314 samples via contact tracing; 34 from 1,953 samples taken by private initiative; one from 159 samples processed by the microbiology laboratories of the general hospitals; 55 from 28,878 samples processed at private clinical labs and pharmacies; and 18 from 19,856 samples as part of the government programme.
No positives were detected in nursing homes in Nicosia and Limassol districts. Testing in high schools tracked a single positive in the Famagusta district.
