CORONAVİRUS: TWO DEATHS AND 206 NEW CASES SEEN ON TUESDAY
The health ministry on Tuesday announced two deaths from Covid-
19 and 206 people positive test results for the virus.
There are 141 Covid-19 patients receiving hospital treatment of whom 39 are in serious condition. Eighteen people are intubated in intensive care, while three are in the same unit but not on a ventilator. A further 18 are being cared for in high dependency units.
Of the hospitalised 80.15 per cent are unvaccinated.
Nine patients initially admitted with
Covid remain in intensive care although they no longer test positive for the virus.
The deaths were of two men, aged 67 and 70 who died on September 6 and September 7 respectively.
There were a total 45,712 tests carried on
Tuesday meaning that the 206 positives resulted in a positivity rate of 0.45 per cent.
The PCR tests (5,627 in total) identified the following: 32 positives from 280 contact tracing tests, six positives from the 2,501 airport tests, 42 from the 2,324 tests taken privately, eight from the 248 hospital tests and, finally, two from the 270 tests taken following referrals from GPs.
As for the Tuesday’s rapid tes
ts, the 29,484 taken privately identified 92 positives while the government’s screening programme for select groups carried out 10,601 rapid tests and resulted in 24 positives.
Per district, the government’s screening programme identified the following: Nicosia registered eight positives from 4,744 tests, while Limassol identified six positives from the 1,873 tests carried out, Larnaca recorded five from its 1,113 tests, Paphos four from 937 tests and, finally, Famagusta identified just one positive from the 622 tests.
Notably, no one tested positive at care homes.
